South Africa to host the 3rd Agricultural Extension Week Conference in Durban
Kampala, 19th October 2017
The African Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (AFAAS) is organizing in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) and the South African Society for Agricultural Extension (SASAE) the 3rd Africa-Wide Agricultural Extension Week from 30 October to 3 November 2017 in Durban. The conference, a first for South Africa, will be held at Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani Hotel in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
This international conference will bring together more than 500 delegates (extension and advisory services practitioners, farmers, researchers, institutions of higher learning, policy makers and development partners) from across Africa under one roof. The conference will be hosted under the theme: “Scaling up Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA): integrating youth, women, and the digital revolution”
AFAAS held its first Africa Wide Agricultural Extension Week in Gaborone Botswana in August 2013, which brought together over 300 delegates from within and outside Africa. The second Extension Week held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in October 2015, was attended by 400 delegates from within and outside the continent.
AFAAS is a Continental body that brings National Agricultural Extension and Advisory Services (AEAS) under one umbrella. The AFAAS’ goal is to enhance utilization of improved knowledge, technologies and innovations by agricultural value chain actors for improving productivity oriented towards their individual and national development objectives. AEAS is a key component of the innovation system, playing a pivotal role in promoting productivity, increasing food security, strengthening rural communities, and underpinning agriculture as the engine for pro-poor economic growth.
